Well folks, we've made it - another big episode. This week it's just the classic fellas, but it's Esté's first viewing of this so I suppose we can consider him today's guest. It's SHORT CUTS - Altman's huge, sprawling look at the lives of '90s LA suburbanites and the tragedies and lotteries of everyday life. We get into the '90s indie film movement, Bob and Kathryn stoned at the Oscars, Cannes 1992, Raymond Carver stories, Frank Barhydt, watching Bob direct, the stacked cast list, PTA. It's a strange movie - dark and funny, mostly dark. But it was a blast talking about it!

We finally begin the '90s Altman era! And kicking us off is this dreamy, strange look at the brothers Vincent and Theo Van Gogh. We share maybe one of the best Altman stories surrounding a legal battle with a Dutch producer. Talking Tim Roth, artist's success after death, Mike Leigh, post-impressionism. We get into some pretty serious discussion about art and corporatism and then we do fun bits and Italian voices. Ultimately, a movie about family.
Thanks bobbleheads!

It's the third and final episode of our Tanner '88 mini-series -- we're sad to say goodbye to our friend Jack, but we'll see him again soon in Tanner on Tanner. We get into these last few episodes, which really bring it all home. Talking about our previous election experience, the convoluted mess that is the primary system, and we finish out on a high note. Join us as we wrap up this wonderful show!

It's our last movie of the 80s, and Bob's final TV movie. We also compare this with the 2023 adaptation by William Friedkin, talk about him and Altman's careers, court room thrillers, military jargon, naval ships, Eric Bogosian's incredible acting. This one's got it all! Salute bobbleheadsMusic:

We've dragged our feet long enough, but it's time for us to get into Altman's final movie from the year 1987. After all these surprise hits in the 80s Bob era, we finally hit a big old goose egg, and it's Beyond Therapy.
We get into Altman and Christopher Durang's differing scripts, Jeff Goldblum being bad at improv, 80s yuppie freaks, and we try to figure out who is to blame for this movie. We have a lot of laughs though and make a good time out of it, so listen in because this one's a doozy!

It's TV movie week as we look into the 1987 2-parter BASEMENTS, Altman's adapted version of two Harold Pinter works.
We get into John Travolta's British accent, Tom Conti's voice, Linda Hunt's voice, it's a voice heavy episode! We talk Harold Pinter and have a fun time dissecting these two strange but interesting stories. Check this one out sometime! It's a fascinating watch and available on the Internet Archive

Huge episode this week! We're talking about Bob's 1987 (filmed in 1983) movie, OC AND STIGGS. A crazy teen-movie satire that was way ahead of its time in the stuff it was even satirizing - that's the power of BOB (get it, its like a reference to 80s movie back to the future).
Seriously though, we have to thank Hunter Stephenson very much for their article '"The Utterly Monstrous, Mind-Roasting Saga of O.C. and Stiggs"' and subsequent documentary for Radiance Films, 'The Water is Finally Blue: The Untold Story of Robert Altman's O.C. and Stiggs'. Without these two pieces, we wouldn't have nearly as much to talk about. Hunter interviewed so many key people in the making of this, and found soooo much cool info that we talk about in this episode. He's also just a very nice person, and enjoys the show! So there you go.
Join us as we discuss lobsters, 80s teen comedies, Altman going on a gambling spree, crazy partying onset. It's everything you could possibly want in the making of an Altman movie (so of course it failed very badly when released). Some people really don't like this one, but we loved it.
