Beware the golden fang!! Joined by our buddy CJ, catching up on his debt from California Split way back. He shares his experiences with PTA's movies, why this one is his favorite - then we dive right into the discussion. We talk a lot of Pynchon, thinking of what led him to return to this era, the stoner noir genre, there's also conspiracy stuff, we couldn’t resist. Love you all, thank you!!

Joined by our pals Jake Serwin and Ian Rhine from Pod (Pauld) Casty for Me, we chatted about PTA's big, shot on 70mm epic. Our guests share a story of visiting the Psychiatry: An Industry of Death Museum, we talked sand women, John Huston's war dept. documentary Let There Be Light. There's Thomas Pynchon stuff, cameras and lens stuff for the nerds, and a lot of us getting off topic into various rabbit holes. Ryan attempts to steer the ship forward as Este guides him through the oceans of riffs and bits. Overall though, it was a ton of fun. What's the most you ever lost for a pudding cup? Well, Paul Thomas Anderson has a little story about that! Jordan Fish, filmmaker and co-host of To the White Sea, comes by to help us discuss Punch-Drunk Love, this wonderful movie from 2002, a certified classic. We talk Sandler, SNL, Maya Rudolph, pudding cups, surrealism, PTA stepping up after a hiatus, Jon Brion's score, Jeremy Blake, love and anger, Sandler yelling. This was a fantastic episode, and we hope you all like it, too.

We return with Paul Thomas Anderson's 1999 epic, an indulgent, melodramatic, beautiful film. And joining us is a returning champ, our friend Chris from Podside Picnic! We discuss PTA's life up to '99, Fiona Apple, cocaine, the LA comedy scene, Aimee Mann, Paul F. Tompkins, Patton Oswalt, PTA fighting for full creative control, messy production, Tom Cruise, Short Cuts, Henry Gibson, parents and kids. There's so much packed in here but it was one of our favorite episodes, so we hope you dig it.

We begin the filmography of PTA with his first movie! It's pretty normal to start something with the first one that happened, and we're very strict about following the rules. Talking about '90s PTA, his confidence, petulance, struggles. We get into Raymond Carver, being in your 20s, Philip Baker Hall, Sundance, John C. Reilly, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Reno, PTA's struggles with the production, the movie's title, Entourage, the 90s director. Lots to cover, lots to discuss but we had a great time and it's a great movie! Thanks everybody

We're baaaack! Kicking off the new series, it's Este's birthday! Go wish him a happy birthday everybody. We begin Altmania "Friends of Bob", starting with our Paul Thomas Anderson journey talking about his films overall, our first encounters with them, and our sort of plan for the upcoming films this season. Then we dive into some PTA news on his upcoming (expensive) movie, rewriting Napoleon, his life in the valley in the '70s, Ernie Anderson, Tim Conway, Robert Ridgely. Then we go right into our two films of today, PTA's first short films The Dirk Diggler Story and Cigarettes & Coffee. One movie we really loved and another we felt was lacking, find out which one is which!! Anyway, it feels great to be back and we hope you're all ready for a wonderful series with some great guests! We've got some fun in store, and we hope you all enjoy. Thanks everybody, peace and love.

Well, the time has come to say goodbye to our friend Bob (for now). We share our big announcement, rank some Bob movies, read some listener mail, and we just spend a good two hours or so talking about Bob, art, politics, and what it all means to us at the end of this road.
It's been a great privilege for us both to get to do this project together every week. Both Este and I grew as friends, we made new friends, and best of all we mutually gained a greater appreciation for one of America's greatest artists. If you love movies and want to share that love, don't be afraid to do something about it! Write about it, get some microphones and record yourselves chatting about it, or just have a conversation with your friends or even a stranger. I couldn't recommend it enough. When we started this show, we'd only known each other for about a year, but having a chance to talk with a friend about art and anything else every week for a year really gave me some memories that I'll never forget. I'm happy to both have 50 episodes to look back on AND great memories with a friend.
And to all of our friends who have written in, your positivity to both our show and to the films of Altman helped reassure us that that legacy is carrying on and the Bob Mindset is always there. Thank you all for encouraging us with your kindness and for taking the time to listen to us chat for a couple hours a week about movies. Shoutouts to those who wrote in to us: Naomi, Jorge Torres, Joe (@punk_turns_puke), and our lovely pal Michael H. Smith.
Additional thanks to everyone who came by and spent time with us on the show, including:Valerie Keaton, Chris Woodward, Kurt Schiller, Jake and Ian from Pod Casty, Carlee and Aaron from Hit Factory, Dante, Reilly, Gigi, Adam Slusar. You were all wonderful, kind guests and NOW friends of Bob and of us!
We will see you all September 6th (that's Este's birthday!) for the premiere of "Friends of Bob". It's gonna be a blast!
